Acid Reflux Symptoms

Most people describe acid reflux symptoms as burning, gnawing, painful and chronic. The discomfort simply refuses to go away. The symptoms are painful and uncomfortable to anyone that has the condition regardless of age.

The most common symptoms of acid reflux are heartburn, which is a burning, painful experience caused by esophageal reflux.  In adults, acid reflux and GERD symptoms are most often seen as heartburn, chest pain, and difficulty swallowing (dysphagia). There is often also pain or an uncomfortable feeling in the upper stomach (dyspepsia) and it can feel like there’s a lump in your throat.

Of all the symptoms of acid reflux disease, disphagia or difficulty swallowing is one of the most unnerving. It’s often described as a momentary sensation of choking.  Dysphagia is a symptom of chronic acid reflux, and usually occurs after the reflux has been going on for a long time.

There are a whole range of lesser known symptoms that can be related to acid reflux. Some of the less common symptoms include a chest pain, chronic cough, wheezing, hoarseness, a sore throat and ear aches.

If you’re not suffering the symptoms, it doesn’t necessarily mean that acid reflux is not damaging your esophagus. If you think you have acid reflux, don’t ignore the symptoms.
